  praying before a meal

  i have stopped.

  it brings up too many memorys of having some elder pray for the cong before we partook of any food.

  it just seemd like a big production, all would gather around and bow heads in silence while some senior male gave thanks- no more- no thanks

  I know who to thank.

  I thank my wife profusely for the wonderful meals she puts in front of me... she's the one that did it. I think it would slight and diminish her efforts to take her hand and thank somebody else for her hard work.

  Witness 007: this is exactly about disfellowshipping....I wonder who wrote it and why?

  The episode was based on a short story by Robert Silverberg; the story was first published in the early 1960s in a collection of short stories he wrote. If you want to read the original story, it's available for affordable purchase here, or you may be able to find one of his collections in your local library:

  Nope...

  The movie E.T. The Extraterrestrial got a whole sidebar in the Awake! one year... must have been early 1980s... I remember my folks breaking the laserdisk we'd bought (and enjoyed) once that article was published. I remember thinking the article sounded whacko to me at the time. It compared E.T. to Christ, suggested that the movie was trying to put E.T. in Christ's place (ability to heal with a touch, etc.). WTF!?

  for some time now, my wife and i have met various people on jwd and we've developped close friendships with many of them over the years.

  we have family members who post on here as well.

  believe me, i wouldn't lose these relationships for the world.

  I've known other boards that have the option to "post anonymous" once you're logged in. In other words, you do have to be a registered user, but in a particular forum (for example, to discuss medical issues or ask questions where privacy is a concern) you have the option to check a "post anonymously" box before submitting your post... replies to the thread may (or may not) be anonymous, but in that particular forum people have the ability to remain anonymous in their post.

  Could something like that be done here, to give registered users anonymity when needed?

  Valentine's Day is what makes ex-JW's married to current-JW's SPECIAL. You see, I must be the only guy in the world privileged to be IN TROUBLE with his wife for REMEMBERING that today was Valentines Day, and buying her candy and gifts.

  I'm serious! She's pissed at me over it. Yet she was okay with me giving her birthday gifts, and she gave me a card on my birthday. What the hell!?!? It's not like it's Halloween for pity's sake!!

  I'm not mad... I feel SORRY for her. She's sitting home CRYING... called me to say that my gift was "a slap in the face". ?!?!

  Anyway, to all you pagans celebrating a holiday with "Christian" origins... I WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!
